Barack Obama’s Nomination Speech
August 29th, 2008
Yesterday I wrote that the stakes were high for Obama’s speech and that he would deliver a great one.
And?
Nailed it.
If you want to review it, I highly recommend that you watch it and/or read it on the New York Times website. It provides hyperlinks that take you to specific points of the speech in side-by-side video and text versions.
Things I really liked about the speech:
- Obama showed me that he can fight back. He took every one of the Republican attacks on his character and readiness to lead and through it back at them. The response to the “celebrity” attack ad could not have been better.
- About the Republicans’ “ownership” system that rewards only the rich and leaves the average American behind, the line “Well it’s time for them to own their failure” was delivered pitch perfect.
- About this time where change is needed: “You have shown what history teaches us, that at defining moments like this one, the change we need doesn’t come from Washington. Change comes to Washington.”
- His outline of the changes he would make: Tax Code, Energy, Education, Health Care, Compensation, Budget…
- His serious demeanor. He was presidential. There can be no doubt in anyone’s mind that he is a leader, and he is ready to lead this country in a new and better direction.
Tune in next week to see if John McCain is up to the task of responding to Obama.
