I know it still seems like a long time off. I know I never guessed this guy would be our president for 8 full years. But there is a day coming that will provide a celebratory burst of long-awaited relief: inauguration day 2009. Whether he’s replaced by a republican, a democrat, an independent, black, white, hispanic, man or woman of southern, northern, eastern, or western origin, as noted by Senator Barack Obama, on 1-20-2009 the world will breathe a sigh of relief.
“I think the world will breathe a sigh of relief. We will be able to stand before the world and say: ‘We are back. America is ready to lead,’ ” he told the crowd of 1,500 at Conway’s Kennett High School, where he was greeted with a two-minute ovation. “Now, we want to lead working with you, by example, on dealing with nuclear proliferation. We want to lead in ending the genocide in Darfur. We want to lead with you on dealing with the AIDS crisis and building schools.”

Supposing the worst of the damage is already done, that nothing new comes up, that we will be given a chance to open our arms to the world again and invite them to give us another chance, to return to our former pride and glory, I’ll be having a party, a great fucking party, at my house that day and you’re all invited.
